Wisconsin’s New School Report Card

Here is a brief analysis of the results of Wisconsin’s new School Report Card, specifically for what it says about students with disabilities. To do this, I analyzed the results from my son’s school, Madison East High School, and the following results should shock the consciences of anyone who cares about what these students are going to be able to achieve after high school: 1) Madison East meets few expectations: 2) 67.2 % of East’s students with disabilities show minimal reading performance (compared to 26.7% for the school and 24.4% for the state); 77.6% of East’s students with disabilities show minimal math performance (compared to 31.6% for the school and 14.1% statewide); 3) reading and math achievement declined for students with disabilities over 3 years and thus the achievement gap increased. There is more bad news, but I’ll save it for the final version of my report.
